For Immediate Release
Sana Security Primary Response SafeConnect Available for Industry-Wide Distribution
More Than 700 Enterprises Leverage Beta Program to Remove over 10,500 Malicious Files
San Mateo, CA - March 6, 2006—
Sana Security, Inc., a leader in enterprise threat protection, today announced the general availability of Primary Response SafeConnect, a downloadable standalone product that provides instant and constant protection for unmanaged end-points. The behavior-based solution protects PCs from malware threats such as keyloggers, rootkits, spyware, adware and phishing attacks without requiring scanning or signatures. Primary Response SafeConnect is the first commercially available security product to afford remote and mobile users as well as connected and occasionally connected users real-time detection and removal, without interrupting productivity for signature updates and scanning procedures.
“Traditional signature-based security products can’t stop zero-day attacks” said Andrew Jaquith, senior analyst, Yankee Group. “Our research shows that while 99% of corporations have deployed anti-virus software, nearly two-thirds (64%) nonetheless suffered virus or worm outbreaks that disrupted at least one business unit. Behavioral security solutions are an increasingly important part of a balanced security program.”
Since the Beta announcement in November 2005, Primary Response SafeConnect has been deployed on 1100 user PCs, in more than 700 enterprises to complement traditional data protection systems. Despite 99% of the users having one of the world’s leading anti-virus software solutions on their PC, Primary Response SafeConnect uncovered a total of 10,480 files containing malicious code and completely removed all traces from the machines. The malware files detected included more than 2,900 Trojans,1,200 keyloggers, and a significant number of rootkits that were previously undetected.
Primary Response SafeConnect utilizes Sana’s Active Malware Defense Technology v.2 (Active MDT) to instantly detect malicious software and remove all traces by identifying and analyzing a combination of behaviors, rather than distinguishing threats by a single behavior or process. While scanning and signature based solutions examine code structure to detect malware and can render a machine unusable, Active MDT provides more effective removal of malicious software from the machine while maintaining it in a usable state. Generic removal elements also allow Active MDT to successfully detect and remove rootkits, a polymorphic threat attacking at the kernel level that often evades detection by traditional security software. Once removal is complete, the solution works constantly to protect PCs whether online or offline, connected or not, and with no further action required on behalf of the user, such as scanning or program updates.
“Malware programs are created to evade traditional protection models. They are not passive threats that can be easily detected or removed and therefore provide increasing security challenges,” said Vlad Gorelik, CTO, Sana Security. “By focusing on the behavior of different malware, Primary Response SafeConnect closes the vulnerability gap that is left open by dated signature models and provides real-time, up-to-date protection.”
“The security industry is under a constant microscope for how they will defend against progressive, malware attacks. Rootkits, specifically, appear to be the latest concern with the challenge of removing from the OS Kernel taking center-stage,” said Marcia Wilson, director of purchasing at Concentric Systems, Inc. “As our customers’ pain points increased around malware and rootkit protection, it was clear we needed to build in a solution that had the capability of not only detecting such stealthy threats, but could get them off the system. The behavioral model driving Sana’s Primary Response SafeConnect has proven a great success for our customer base.”
To combat stealthy malware threats, Primary Response SafeConnect surpasses scanning and signature-based solutions by providing key benefits such as:
- Comprehensive, real-time detection and removal of malware that eliminates the need for multiple security products
- Threat protection against spyware, adware and phishing without requiring signature updates or scanning
- Complete removal of all traces of malicious software, including rootkits
- Protection for mobile and remote users
